In 2025, the Alturas Tribal Council enacted an ordinance establishing the Alturas Rancheria Tribal Court, a court of limited jurisdiction. The Alturas Tribal Court is the Altura Rancheria’s judicial branch of government. The Court provides the legal framework for the Rancheria to govern itself and to resolve civil disputes arising within the community, without outside interference. Both Alturas Rancheria citizens and non-Alturas community members may utilize the forum for their legal issues and requests. Some of the many topics the Court handles are listed below:
•Adoption of Children •Animal Control •Child Welfare Cases (Protecting Abused and/or Neglected Children) •Dissolution •Domestic Violence Restraining Orders •Guardianships Over Children •Name Changes •Small Claims •Contract Disputes
The Court's primary mission is to preserve the sovereignty and self-determination of the Alturas Rancheria.
